Governor Punjab Approves Amendments to Civil Servants Pension Rules 2024

In a recent development, Governor Punjab Muhammad Balighur Rehman has utilized the powers granted to him under Article 128(01) of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to promulgate the Punjab Civil Servants Amendment Ordinance 2023. The key amendment involves the modification of section 2 in the Punjab Civil Servants Act VIII of 1974.

As per the ordinance, a significant change has been introduced to the contribution pension scheme. Under this scheme, both the government (as the employer) and the civil servant (as the employee) will make contributions to the pension account.

These contributions will then be invested in a pension fund until the government employee’s retirement. At the time of retirement, the accumulated balance in the pension account will be reinvested to generate a monthly pension.

It’s important to note that this defined contribution pension scheme will be applicable to government servants recruited on or after the ordinance’s promulgation date.
