Punjab School Safety Emergency Notice 2026

Immediate Evacuation of Unsafe School Buildings Ordered

The Government of Punjab has issued an urgent notification (Ref No. SO(ADP-II)1-37/2024, dated 21 February 2026) directing the immediate closure and evacuation of all public school buildings declared “Dangerous” or “Partially Dangerous.” The decision follows recent structural inspections that identified serious safety risks in several government schools across the province.

This step has been taken to prevent accidents and ensure the protection of students, teachers, and staff.

Official Directive Details

The order has been circulated by the School Education Department, Lahore, to:

  • All Deputy Commissioners
  • Chairpersons of District Education Authorities (DEAs)
  • Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of DEAs

Copies were also sent to senior departmental officials for strict monitoring and compliance.

Main Instructions Issued

The government has directed the following immediate actions:

  • Complete evacuation of all buildings categorized as Dangerous or Partially Dangerous.
  • Strict ban on students and staff entering or using these buildings for any purpose.
  • Sealing and cordoning off unsafe premises.
  • Installation of clear warning boards to restrict access.

Accountability Measures

Any failure to implement the order may lead to disciplinary action against concerned officials, including:

  • Chief Executive Officers (CEOs)
  • District Education Officers (DEOs)
  • Deputy DEOs
  • Assistant Education Officers (AEOs)
  • Head Teachers

Legal and administrative action will be taken under relevant service rules if negligence results in any incident.

Reason Behind the Emergency Action

Recent structural audits revealed that certain school buildings pose significant risks due to weak construction, damage, or lack of maintenance. The Punjab government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy regarding student safety and infrastructure hazards.

  • Arrange alternative classrooms in safe locations where possible.
  • Consider temporary online classes if required.

For Parents:
